Kingspan Lighthouse brings home more awards

The Kingspan Lighthouse has won two more national awards for its innovative design and environmental credentials. The latest accolades, from the Building Services Journal and the Mail on Sunday, confirm the Kingspan Lighthouse as a beacon of sustainable building design.
As the first zero-carbon house to achieve level six rating under the Code for Sustainable Homes, the judges at the 2008 Building Services Awards declared the Kingspan Lighthouse as ‘a good example of moving residential design forward’. Winning the category of Environmental Initiative of the Year, the Kingspan Lighthouse was commended for the high levels of insulation and air-tightness, and the inclusion of whole-house mechanical ventilation with heat recovery.
The ‘elegant and distinctive’ structure of the Kingspan Lighthouse also impressed the judges at the Mail on Sunday’s British Home Awards. Achieving the top prize in the Innovation for Building Technology category, the judges commented on the relatively simple form which incorporates a mono-pitched roof and extensive timber cladding.
Since its launch in 2007, Kingspan Off-Site has won a number of awards for the Kingspan Lighthouse. Award highlights include the Achievement in Engineered Timber at the TTJ Awards 2007 and the Energy Efficient Project of the Year at the Builder & Engineer Awards 2007. The Kingspan Lighthouse was also shortlisted for Project of the Year at the Building Awards 2008.
