Kingspan Off-Site Contributes to ‘Excellent’ Luxury Eco Homes

Kingspan Off-Site’s TEK Building System has been specified for use in a development of eco-friendly homes, which incorporate a comprehensive collection of the latest in sustainable features. Developers, Inspired Developments, have included the latest in environmentally friendly technology when creating the properties in Heywood Gardens, Manchester.
SIPS@Clays supplied and erected the Kingspan Off-Site TEK Building System, which comprised perimeter walls, floors, decking and roof panels. The TEK Building System was specified because of its excellent levels of thermal insulation, leading to reduced energy usage and heating requirements.
The 10 four-bedroomed homes, finished with a classic façade to reflect buildings in the local area, conform to an ‘Excellent’ EcoHomes Standard. This rating was achieved through the use of modern methods of construction, such as the timber frame, and incorporation of state-of-the-art design features included to help residents save money while working to protect the environment.
The inclusion of domestic wind turbines on some of the homes will produce up to 30% of the property’s annual electricity needs. Other homes have solar thermal panel roof tiles, which also contribute to reducing energy consumption.
Inspired Developments, the regeneration arm of construction group Seddon, have also included advanced heat recovery ventilation systems which will create energy savings in terms of heating (or cooling) the homes by re-circulating clean, recycled air. Low energy lighting and super-insulated hot water tanks complete the low energy usage of the homes.
The homes were painted both internally and externally with organic paints that included no polluting toxins or solvents; doors, fascias and other wooded fittings were made from sustainable timber and up to 90% of all waste materials created by work on site were recycled.
