Company History
Kingspan Off-Site, as a super-division was created in 2007, but far from being a new business its history can be traced back to 1947 when the Ward brothers established their business in Yorkshire.
The Kingspan Group acquired the Wards business in 1997 and following a restructure in 2004 created Kingspan Metl-con which offered structural steel products to the construction industry. It was around this time that Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) were starting to become more commonplace, so in 2005 Kingspan Metl-con formed a division specialising in off-site steel technologies.
Kingspan Off-Site has recently further bolstered its structural steel offering by acquiring Banro who were originally established in 1984.
The timber frame side of Kingspan Off-Site can be traced back to 1964 when Potton, the leading timber frame business supplying the self-build market, was established. Kingspan Off-Site purchased Potton in 2006.
At the same time as purchasing Potton, Kingspan Off-Site also purchased Pace Timber Frame. Pace were set-up in 1999 and had acquired a number of businesses before being purchased by Kingspan. The businesses purchased by Pace were Llewellyn Engineering and Greenframe. These were established in 1968 and 1998 respectively.
Kingspan’s first acquisition in the timber frame market was however Century Homes in 2005. Century was set-up by the McCaughey brothers in 1990.
In 1994, a German business was started that manufactured structurally insulated panels (SIPs). With a troubled history, Kingspan purchased the business in 2001 and launched the Kingspan TEK Building System.
With all its history and experience, Kingspan Off-Site is already delivering innovative and sustainable low carbon solutions across the industry. This is just the start, there is more to come…
